As Yeddyurappa will resign ahead taking floor test
Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has reportedly decided to resign as he is unlikely to get numbers to prove majority in the house. Yeddyurappa has prepared a 13-page speech and is reportedly planning to quit like former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Pro tem Speaker G Bopaaih has adjourned the Assembly till 3.30 pm.
According to reports, BS Yeddyurappa has been instructed to resign amid horse-trading charges which would have led to the embarrassment to the party. BS Yeddyurappa maintained silence throughout the session. On the other hand, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) legislators are in jubilant mood. Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa walked out of the House during the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected legislators. Currently, the BJP has 104 MLAs, Congress 78 and JDS 37 and two independent MLAs.
Elections are yet to be held in Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari constituencies. Since JDS state President HD Kumaraswamy has won two seats, one of his constituencies will go for bypoll after he vacates the seat. It may be recalled that Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had sworn in as Prime Minister in 1996, had ended the 13-day rule by making a spectacular speech as he failed to consolidate 272 seats to prove the majority. He did not involve in horse-trading and resigned as PM. Then, the BJP had 161 seats, the Congress had 140 seats.
