Cabinet bans use of beacons in VIPs vehicles including President & PM from May 1
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday has banned the use of beacons atop VIP vehicles, it is reported.
As per sources the move which is seen as an attempt to end the prevalent VIP culture will come into existence from May 1. The ban will also encompass vehicles being used by the President, Prime Minister, ministers, and judges.
"This government is a government of common masses and
has decided to abolish VIP culture of beacon lights and sirens," Mr
Gadkari said after a cabinet meeting.
Later, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley added that no one at the centre or in states
can announce any exceptions to the new rule. "Blue lights, used
often for the car preceding VIPs, will be allowed only for emergency
vehicles," he said.
Currently, both Uttar Pradesh and Punjab under the new leadership of Yogi Adityanath and Captain Amarinder Singh respectively, have shunned the use of red beacon lights on vehicles.
