Senior journalist Neelabh Mishra passed away
New Delhi: Neelabh Mishra, senior journalist and editor-in-chief of National Herald, passed away at a Chennai Hospital on Saturday. He was 57. The well-known journalist was critically ill and was suffering from complications resulting from non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai earlier this month and developed multiple organ failure before a liver transplant could be carried out.
Mishra steered the re-launch of National Herald, the newspaper. Informing about his demise, National Herald tweeted, "With deep sorrow, National Herald announces the passing away of our Editor-in-chief Neelabh Mishra at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, on Feb 24, 2018. NH will take forward Neelabh's unwavering commitment to defending India's precious democratic freedoms." Congress chief Rahul Gandhi condoled his death, describing him as one who spoke the truth to power. "An Editor's Editor. A man who spoke truth to power. An institution builder. On Neelabh Mishra's tragic passing away this morning, my deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and admirers. #NationalHerald," tweeted Rahul.
