Samantha opens up about ex-boyfriend, says could have ended up like Savitri

It is not very often that a lead actor will open up about her love life with as much candour as Samantha Akkineni has done. Speaking to a Telugu daily recently, she explained how she was deeply in love with her ex-boyfriend and would have met with a fate similar to legendary actor Savitri’s had she not pulled out of the relationship in the nick of time.

Quoting her, Mathrubhumi in a report wrote: “I would have also gone through the same experience faced by Savitri. But, I realised it and came out of it. I knew that our relationship wouldn’t end well. I consider myself to be fortunate that I have got a husband like Naga Chaitanya.” While she chose not to name the person, it may be recalled that she was in a relationship with actor Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame for a long time. It is not known what exactly led to the two breaking up but it was rumoured that while she wanted to settle down, Siddharth was not ready to commit.

Samantha, of course, found love again in Naga Chaitanya. After a long courtship period, the love birds tied the knot in October 2017. Pictures and videos from their dreamy marriage were a hit on Instagram. In the movie Savitri, Samantha played the role of a journalist named Madhuravani who narrates the legendary actor’s tragic story. Savitri married an already married man, Gemini Ganesan. After initial few years of bliss, their marriage started showing signs of strain as Gemini continued with his extramarital affairs. It is said that there was tiff between the two also because he was a bit jealous of her rising popularity as a star. The downward spiral that their marriage was, coupled with a few professional misfires, resulted in Savitri turning an alcoholic.
