Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam caught in plagiarism row

Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam is one of the biggest blockbusters of Telugu filmdom this summer. the film has recently completed its 50-day theatrical run in cinemas. Sadly, the Sukumar directed revenge drama has now been caught in the eye of a storm with a writer claiming that it is a plagiarized work.

In his complaint to Telugu Film Writers Association, writer M Gandhi has pointed that Rangasthalam is copied from his book Ukkupaadam. Reacting to the plagiarism claims, Sukumar wrote a long letter to the association in which he denied all claims made by Gandhi. “Neither I nor my producers (at Mythri Movie Makers) have ever met Gandhi. As such, there is no way that we could have lifted his ideas. The element of the hero saving first and killing the villain later is entirely my idea. I was inspired by Rajinikanth’s Dharma Yuddham in writing the scenes. In the said film, the way the hero punishes the villain has deeply influenced me.

When the villain is too powerful, or when none can give him just desserts, or when he is too influential, the victim becomes the judge and the jury,” Sukumar was quoted in a report by The News Minute. Rangasthalam, according to its makers, earlier this month breached into the Rs 200 crore club, making it the third highest grosser after the Baahubali franchise. Despite being released on Amazon Prime, it is worth mentioning that Rangasthalam is still playing in a few screens across the Telugu states. The film also stars Samantha Akkineni, Aadi Pinisetty and Prakash Raj in important roles.
