Govt. to open Indira Canteen in all govt. hospitals of Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The state government has decided to set up subsidised Indira canteens in all the government hospitals of the city. First such canteen will come up in the KC General hospital of Malleshwaram.

According to BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad, KC General hospital officials have already issued permission to set up the canteen in the hospital premises. "In the second phase, canteens will be set up in Victoria and Sanjay Gandhi hospitals," he stated.

According to Prasad, Indira canteens are expected to help patients and their relatives by providing food at subsidised rate. "Those who come for government hospitals are poor. This will help them," he said.Prasad also informed that since launch of canteens in the city, more than 14 lakh people have utilised the subsidised food.
